My friends,

What a pleasure it is to welcome you to Costa Rica, on the occasion of the “Business & the Environment” conference of the Wharton Alumni Reunion. I hope that while you are here you will not only work to craft solutions to the most pressing problems facing the global environment and the fragile tropical ecosystems of Central America and the world, but will also have the chance to see first-hand the many natural and cultural wonders on display within our borders.  I invite you to soak in our volcanic hot springs, hang a hammock in the shade of a palm tree on the beach, spot wildlife in the cloud forest and enjoy the cultural life in our villages and cities. For anyone who has encountered this country's ecological and cultural riches truly knows what is at stake, knows that we have our work cut out for us to ensure these treasures' preservation.

I look forward to meeting you all personally, as we gather for the Wharton Alumni Forum in Costa Rica.
